Thomas Hilico - Our young Guest Speaker

On April 28th, 2010, Thomas Hilico, our Grade 9, Indus student, showed that when there is a will to act, age is no barrier. Thomas shared with our enthusiastic PYP ACTION volunteer students and teachers, the Grade 9 student initiative to paint a section of the Kalahalli Orphanage. Our guest speaker inspired the audience with his simple yet effectively delivered talk and connected well with the young ones. Our students asked him many questions and also shared their own personal stories of helping the underpriviledged in their community.
In our weekly meeting, we also conducted an informal survey among our PYP ACTION Volunteer students and they overwhelmingly voted to continue the Guest speaker series. They stated that these talks informed them about things people were doing and also gave themselves ideas to serve their community. Kudos to our enthusisatic and caring young eagles!!!!

Guest Speaker: Ms Jane Wicks
On April 13th, 2010, Ms Jane Wicks came in as a guest speaker to share with our PYP students the amazing work being done at the Kalahalli orphanage under her leadership. Jane spoke about how the volunteer PAC-CAS members went about planning and implementing their regular teaching program for the students at the Kalahalli, how much time they devote and why they did this. Jane also outlined how effective she thought the program had been and the challenges they had faced. These volunteer parents have been teaching English, Math and social skills to these children the whole year, as well as assisting Indus in conducting sports day and Children's Day and other food/shoe drives. They have formed a bond with these students and Jane had many touching stories of breaking through with these children and winning their trust.
We commend these caring and committed role models for giving their time and for all their efforts in making a difference in the lives of the students of Kalahalli.

Mufti Day in April - Earth Day
PYP's Mufti Day in April continued the celebration from Earth Day. The students wore earthy colours to celebrate the many things we appreciated about the environment. Students also wrote many of their own pledges for what they would do to help save our precious earth. We truly have a young group of concerned environmentalist who are willing to do what it takes to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Our PYP eagles raised a total of Rs. 3767 (our highest monthly total so far!!) by bringing only Rs. 10 to show their support for ACTION. Thank you again to all the PYP!
